New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has extended the deployment of 273 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Delhi until October 31, keeping additional security personnel in the national capital amid concerns over possible flash protests.
The decision follows a request from Delhi Police, which reportedly flagged the possibility of sudden demonstrations by political parties and other organisations at sensitive locations. The extended deployment is intended to help maintain law and order and enable security agencies to respond quickly if required.
According to official sources, this is the second extension of the deployment. The forces were initially brought to Delhi in connection with protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) earlier this month.
Authorities are concerned that political groups or other organisations could organise sudden demonstrations at different locations across the capital. Delhi Police reportedly told the Home Ministry that continued support from central forces was necessary to manage potential law-and-order challenges.
The extension comes amid political tensions and a proposed INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on October 31, as mentioned in the source material. The deployment extension is a precautionary measure and does not, by itself, mean that a fresh protest or security incident is certain to occur.
The 273 companies comprise personnel from six central forces. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) accounts for 125 companies, including 20 women personnel units. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has 20 companies, while the Border Security Force (BSF) contributes 46 companies.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has 39 companies, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has 31, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has 12 companies.
A company has a sanctioned strength of around 100 personnel, although its effective operational strength is often lower. Based on an estimated 70–72 personnel per company, 273 companies would represent roughly 19,110–19,656 personnel. The actual number of personnel deployed on the ground should be confirmed with the authorities.
The extended deployment means additional security personnel will remain available alongside Delhi Police through October 31. Depending on security assessments and developments, residents and commuters could encounter checks, barricading or traffic restrictions near particular locations. However, the extension announcement does not confirm any specific road closures or restrictions. Any such measures will depend on official instructions and the prevailing situation.
