New Delhi: Commuters travelling across Delhi on Saturday, October 10, should prepare for possible traffic congestion and diversions as the national capital steps up security arrangements ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory warning of disruptions at 30 key locations. Traffic restrictions are scheduled to begin at 6 am and will be implemented according to the prevailing law-and-order situation.
Several major roads and intersections across central Delhi and other parts of the capital could witness traffic restrictions. The locations identified in the advisory include Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Jhandewalan Roundabout, Panchkuian Roundabout, Mandi House, Minto Road, Lodhi Road Flyover and Bhikaji Cama Place.
Commuters may also face delays around Jantar Mantar Road, Ashoka Road, Windsor Place, Rail Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Gole Dak Khana and Connaught Place.
Key junctions near Parliament Street and important government buildings may also experience changes in traffic movement. The restrictions will depend on the situation on the ground and may be adjusted as required.
The traffic measures come amid heightened security preparations for the proposed CJP demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The party has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Delhi Police has denied permission for the proposed gathering, while organisers have maintained their intention to proceed with the protest.
The traffic police has urged people to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time, particularly if they are travelling through New Delhi and central Delhi to reach railway stations, inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) or the airport.
Residents have also been advised to avoid non-essential travel and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel. Since restrictions may change depending on ground conditions, commuters should check official Delhi Traffic Police updates before leaving home.
Travellers heading towards busy junctions are advised to keep alternative routes in mind to minimise delays.
