Strong monsoon activity is unlikely in Delhi this week (Img: X)
New Delhi: With the monsoon losing momentum in Delhi-NCR, rising humidity and heat have once again started troubling residents. After getting some relief from rainfall over the past few days, the weather in the national capital has taken a turn. Despite cloudy skies, sunshine and increasing moisture levels are making the heat feel more intense.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong monsoon activity is unlikely in Delhi this week. Continuous rainfall is not expected, although a few spells of light to moderate rain may occur in the coming days, providing temporary relief from humid conditions.
On Monday, August 31, Delhi is expected to witness partly cloudy skies, but chances of significant rainfall remain low. The weather department has predicted that strong sunlight during the day may increase discomfort for people.
The minimum temperature is likely to remain between 25°C and 27°C, while the maximum temperature may hover around 35°C to 37°C. Winds from the southwest direction are expected to blow at a speed of around 20-25 kmph during the day.
The IMD has said that no major change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next seven days. This means Delhi residents may have to continue dealing with heat and humidity for now.
On Sunday, August 30, Delhi witnessed partly cloudy skies, but sunshine continued to trouble people. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28°C, around 1.5 degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature settled at nearly 35.5°C, about 1 degree above normal.
In nearby areas, Ghaziabad recorded a maximum temperature of 35.7°C, while Noida recorded 33.9°C.
Although monsoon activity remains weak, the weather department has predicted chances of light to moderate rainfall on September 1 and 2 in Delhi. This spell of rain may bring temporary relief from heat and humidity.
During the last 24 hours, no major change was observed in Delhi’s temperatures. The minimum temperature in different areas remained between 24°C and 28°C, while maximum temperatures ranged between 34°C and 35°C.
Western winds blew at a speed of 15-20 kmph across the capital. At Palam, wind speed reached up to 35 kmph around 10 am. During this period, the maximum humidity level was recorded at 74%, while the minimum humidity stood at 54%.
