New Delhi: Weather conditions suddenly changed across Delhi-NCR on Sunday morning as heavy rainfall lashed several areas of the national capital, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. The rainfall brought down temperatures and provided much-needed relief to people from the ongoing humid heat.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has caused several rivers to swell, creating flood-like situations in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 19 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.

Rainfall in Delhi-NCR Makes Weather Pleasant

Rain started in several parts of Delhi-NCR around 5 am on Sunday. Along with Delhi, showers were reported in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. According to the weather department, rainfall activity is likely to continue in the capital region for the next few days, with chances of heavy showers at isolated places.

The drop in temperature after rainfall has brought relief from humid conditions. Light mist was also witnessed in some areas during the morning hours, making the weather more pleasant.

Rivers Overflow in Uttar Pradesh, Flood-Like Situation in 13 Districts

In Uttar Pradesh, continuous rainfall has increased water levels in major rivers, including the Ganga and Ghaghara. Around six rivers are currently flowing above normal levels. Prayagraj and Varanasi are among the worst-affected areas.

In Varanasi, rising water levels of the Ganga have submerged several ghats, including Manikarnika Ghat. Out of the famous 84 ghats, many are under water. The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat was conducted from the rooftop due to rising water levels.

Flood-like conditions have been reported in 13 districts of the state. Authorities have advised people to avoid going near rivers and ghats.

Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 19 States

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states on Sunday. The alert covers Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Odisha, and other regions.

Heavy showers are also expected in parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Cities including Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Agra, Aligarh, Mathura, Ballia, Banda, Meerut, and Noida are under weather alert.

Weather Forecast for Next Three Days

The monsoon trough is currently extending from Amritsar through Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh towards the northeastern Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, monsoon activity is expected to remain strong across several parts of the country on August 23, 24, and 25.

Rainfall is likely to continue across Delhi-NCR and several parts of North India in the coming days. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas and near overflowing rivers.
