New Delhi: Delhi is experiencing cooler weather conditions following heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that swept across the national capital on Monday. The downpour brought relief from warm conditions, lowered temperatures and improved air quality, while waterlogging was reported in some areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Safdarjung observatory recorded 41.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on October 12, making it the wettest October day in four years.
The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 20°C on Tuesday, October 13, while the maximum could reach approximately 33°C. The forecast indicates partly cloudy skies during the day.
Although the recent showers have brought temporary relief from the heat, temperatures are likely to rise as the day progresses. Residents should monitor updated weather forecasts for any changes in rainfall predictions.
The heavy rainfall also contributed to an improvement in Delhi's air quality. The city's air quality briefly entered the satisfactory category for the first time this month, according to reports.
However, the downpour caused waterlogging in several locations, including parts of south Delhi and Mahipalpur, affecting local movement.
Weather experts have indicated that intermittent post-monsoon showers could continue over the coming days. Residents should remain alert to official advisories, particularly if thunderstorms or heavy rainfall return.
For commuters, checking traffic updates before travelling may help avoid delays in areas affected by water accumulation.
With temperatures fluctuating after the recent rain, Delhi's weather is expected to remain relatively comfortable during the morning, although warmer conditions may return in the afternoon.
