New Delhi: Recently, diplomatic tension has increased on the platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Azerbaijan has alleged that India has blocked its full membership application. However, no official stataement has come from India in this matter yet, due to which the situation remains confused.
This dispute is especially important because Azerbaijan is considered a close ally of Pakistan and has often supported Pakistan on anti-India issues. This demand of Azerbaijan came to the fore during the ongoing SCO summit in Tianjin City, China.
Why did India oppose Azerbaijan’s application?
According to Azerbaijani media reports, China supported Azerbaijan’s membership application, but India opposed it. The media report described India’s stance as against the “Shanghai spirit.” It was also alleged that India’s opposition is linked to the growing closeness between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

Pakistan increased diplomatic steps
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also intensified diplomatic activities. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar recently held talks with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. Both countries agreed to establish mutual diplomatic relations.
This step has been taken at a time when a peace agreement has been reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia recently under the mediation of the US.
Pakistan’s attempt to improve relations with Armenia
Pakistan has been opposing Armenia for a long time and supporting Azerbaijan. But now it is trying to improve its relations with Armenia. Azerbaijani media claims that this initiative has been taken after talks with Azerbaijan. This strategic change reflects the changing political circumstances of the South Caucasus region.

Diplomatic tension in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)
It is clear from this entire situation that diplomatic complexities are deepening between India, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and China on the SCO platform. Azerbaijan’s accusations against India and Pakistan’s efforts to improve relations with Armenia are further adding to the complex geopolitical situation in the region.
In the coming times, these diplomatic developments will have to be monitored to see how they impact the regional and international levels.
