JD(U) leader Ayaz Darwi raises voice over doctors’ stipend crisis
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Janata Dal (United) General Secretary Ayaz Darwi has appealed to the administration to address the concerns of protesting intern doctors, who have launched a strike over what they describe as inadequate stipend payments.
Darwi said intern doctors are an essential part of the healthcare system and their concerns cannot be ignored. He called upon the Health and Medical Education Department to come forward with a concrete solution and resolve the matter at the earliest.
The protest by intern doctors has emerged as a major issue in Jammu and Kashmir, with discussions around medical education, healthcare workforce challenges and the financial struggles faced by young doctors gaining momentum.
The intern doctors have been on strike for the past four days, demanding attention towards their stipend-related grievances. Ayaz Darwi highlighted that medical interns play a crucial role in supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities, especially in government institutions where they assist in patient care, emergency services and daily medical operations.
He said any delay in resolving their concerns could impact healthcare delivery and create additional pressure on the existing medical system. The JD(U) leader stressed that issues affecting students, interns and young professionals should receive priority from the administration as they directly impact public services.
Darwi urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to move beyond discussions and present a clear roadmap to address the demands of the protesting doctors. He said government departments responsible for medical education and healthcare should engage with representatives of the interns and find a practical solution.
According to him, young professionals who contribute to public institutions must receive proper support and recognition for their work. The statement comes amid growing concerns over employment, education and healthcare-related issues affecting youth in the region.

Apart from raising the intern doctors’ concerns, Ayaz Darwi also criticised political parties for focusing on political confrontations instead of addressing issues directly affecting people. He targeted both the BJP and National Conference, alleging that political disputes have overshadowed key public concerns.
Darwi said people are looking for solutions related to employment, healthcare, education, roads, electricity, water supply and other essential services rather than political conflicts. He appealed to all political parties to prioritise public welfare and take meaningful steps to resolve issues faced by students and common citizens.
Darwi also stated that JD(U) national working president Nitesh Kumar is scheduled to visit Delhi, where discussions on several Jammu and Kashmir-related issues are expected.
He said Nitesh Kumar has a broader vision for the region and that necessary inputs would be presented at appropriate platforms after discussions in Delhi. The statement indicates JD(U)’s intent to raise regional concerns at a wider political level.
