Ramnagar:  West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has intensified his political attack on the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), urging people to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi while using strong language against groups that he accused of undermining nationalism.

Addressing a gathering, Adhikari called on people to oppose what he described as the “Dimagi Naxal” and “tukde tukde” groups. His remarks came a day after he compared the alleged spread of the CJP's influence to pests and the coronavirus.

Adhikari Raises Nationalism in Education

Speaking in Ramnagar on Sunday, Adhikari advocated holding annual elocution, quiz and debate competitions in educational institutions to promote national consciousness among students.

He used the analogy of cockroaches and bedbugs to criticise groups he believes are spreading divisive ideas, referring to the household insecticide brand Hit while making his point.

The chief minister also criticised the Left parties and the previous 15-year Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee. He alleged that both administrations had weakened Bengal's cultural heritage and traditions.

Allegations Against Previous TMC Government

Adhikari accused the former TMC government of appeasement politics, neglecting nationalism and attempting to turn West Bengal into “Greater Bangladesh.” These were political allegations made by the chief minister.

He also claimed that the previous administration had sought to limit National Cadet Corps (NCC) enrolment in educational institutions and introduced the Jai Hind Vahini as an alternative. According to Adhikari, NCC participation could help students pursue opportunities to join the armed forces as Agniveers.

The chief minister further criticised the inclusion in school history textbooks of people he accused of playing a role in Tata Motors' exit from Singur.

Curriculum Changes Planned

Adhikari said changes to school syllabi would be introduced from the next academic year. He also reiterated his government's intention to implement the National Education Policy in West Bengal.

The remarks followed his meeting with the family of a person who died in a stampede at Kolkata's Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal on October 17, according to the report
