New Delhi: The dates for the assembly elections in five states and one union territory across the country are expected to be announced soon. Sources indicate that the Election Commission of India is expected to announce the election schedule on March 15th or 16th. The states where elections are scheduled include Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and the union territory of Puducherry.

The term of the legislative assemblies in all these states is ending in May, so the Election Commission is busy finalizing preparations.

Considerations Gained During Visits to the States

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited all these states and union territories over the past few weeks. During these meetings, he held separate meetings with political party leaders, administrative officials, and police officers to discuss election-related issues.

These meetings discussed security arrangements, polling station preparations, voter lists, and other aspects related to the smooth conduct of the elections. Following this, a final review meeting was held at the Election Commission headquarters in Delhi, where the election schedule was discussed in detail.

Announcement may be made on March 15 or 16

According to sources, the Chief Election Commissioner is expected to announce the election schedule for these states on March 15 (Sunday) or March 16 (Monday). Both political parties and voters are eagerly awaiting the election dates, as the code of conduct will also come into effect.

Election activities are expected to intensify in the respective states once the Election Commission announces the dates.

Prime Minister's Kolkata Visit Also in Discussion

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kolkata on March 14. During this visit, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects worth approximately ₹18,680 crore.

There is also talk in political circles that the Election Commission may announce the election schedule only after the Prime Minister's visit, so that government programs and the electoral process are not disrupted.

Polls in April and Results Possible in May

According to reports, voting for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may be held in the second week of April. The election results for all five states are expected to be announced on May 3.

These elections are considered extremely important politically, as the contest for power in these major states of South and East India is expected to be intense. Political parties have already begun formulating their strategies, and campaigning will intensify once the election schedule is announced.
