Fatehpur Blast: Cylinder Explosion Kills 4, Leaves One Critical Under Debris

Four people died and one suffered critical burns after a cylinder explosion collapsed a two-storey house in Fatehpur’s Malwan town, triggering rescue, forensic and debris-clearing operations.

Fatehpur: At least four people were killed and another critically injured after a cylinder explosion caused a two-storey house to collapse in Malwan town of Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Monday morning.

Fatehpur Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik said police received information about the incident at around 5:30 am through the Police Response Vehicle (PRV). “Local residents informed us that a cylinder had exploded in Malwan town. They said that some people were trapped under the debris following the explosion, while others were injured and needed assistance,” he said.

Four Dead, One On Ventilator

According to the SP, local police and the PRV team reached the spot after receiving the information and began rescue efforts. Seven people have so far been pulled out from the debris, of whom four were confirmed dead.

“The fifth person has reportedly suffered burns of more than 90 per cent. He is in a critical condition and is on a ventilator. Every possible effort is being made to save his life,” Manglik said.

The remaining two people, a woman and a man, are said to be out of danger and are expected to be discharged after receiving minor treatment.

Manglik said the explosion brought down the main two-storey house, while beams of some nearby houses were also damaged. However, no casualties were reported from the adjoining structures.

Forensic Team Probes Cause

The police are investigating the exact cause of the explosion. “Our forensic team and fire department personnel are currently at the site. They are trying to determine the exact cause of the blast,” the SP said.

He added that officials had spoken to people present at the scene, who reported seeing a cylinder explode.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been called in and is expected to assist if further information emerges about people trapped under the debris.

Manglik said debris-clearing operations would continue through the night. Lighting arrangements are also being made at the site so that rescue work can continue after dark. “If anyone is found trapped inside, or if we receive information indicating that someone may be trapped, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
