New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday called on supporters and members of the public to assemble at Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place at 5 pm for its ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march, despite the park being closed for two days on administrative grounds.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced that Central Park would remain shut on Friday and Saturday. Delhi Police, meanwhile, said it could facilitate a select group of people to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.
The march comes amid the CJP’s ongoing protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities. The party has been demanding his removal, arguing that the Election Commission must be held accountable.
Announcing the demonstration on social media, the outfit used the tagline, “FriYAY plans? We got ideas for you!”
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the party would proceed peacefully with its plan to wave the national flag at Central Park. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he challenged the authorities’ response to the proposed gathering.
“Tomorrow, we will peacefully go (to Central Park) and wave the Tiranga. As the citizens of this country, if you consider this to be a crime, then you are the biggest traitor,” he said.
“If we have to go to jail for waving the tricolour, we are ready for it,” Dipke added.

The CJP founder said late Thursday night that he feared Delhi Police could detain him before the march. He alleged that he was being monitored at his residence, claiming that vehicles without number plates were following him and Intelligence Bureau personnel were seeking updates from the watchman outside his house.
Dipke maintained that the possibility of detention would not deter him from participating in the demonstration.

He also questioned the decision to close Central Park, asking whether authorities would shut down multiple locations if the group chose to wave the national flag at several places. He further questioned whether political rallies would be cancelled if participants displayed the Tricolour.
Dipke referred to the judicial custody of party members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were detained after entering Jantar Mantar while waving the national flag on October 13.
The party has accused the government of restricting peaceful demonstrations and called for an independent and impartial process to appoint a new election commissioner. Dipke said the demand was not aimed at changing the government but at securing changes in the appointment process.
Describing the situation as an “Emergency”, Dipke alleged that the authorities were acting against people questioning the Election Commission.
These allegations come as the dispute over the proposed march continues. While the CJP has maintained that its demonstration will be peaceful, the NDMC has said Central Park’s closure is for administrative reasons. Delhi Police has indicated that a select group may be facilitated to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.
