Greater Noida: Uttar Pradesh’s evolving economic landscape took centre stage at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) on Sunday as Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the state’s transformation from a traditional market into an emerging investment and manufacturing destination.
Addressing a special business session titled "Leveraging India’s Free Trade Agreements for Global Business Growth" at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Goyal said Uttar Pradesh’s development journey is gaining global attention with rapid infrastructure expansion, industrial growth and increasing participation in international trade.
The Union Minister said the state’s changing image is being driven by improved connectivity, investor confidence, entrepreneurship and policy initiatives aimed at strengthening industries across sectors.
Goyal’s remarks came on the third day of UPITS, an international platform bringing together businesses, exporters, investors and industry representatives to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s products and economic potential.
## Uttar Pradesh’s New Economic Identity Takes Shape
Piyush Goyal highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant shift in its economic narrative over the past few years.
He pointed towards the expansion of expressways, development of new airports, industrial parks and investments in emerging sectors such as defence manufacturing, semiconductors, electronics and advanced technology as indicators of the state’s changing economic profile.
The minister said modern industries, including robotics and advanced manufacturing units coming up around Noida, represent the state’s growing ambition to become a major player in future-oriented sectors.
According to Goyal, Uttar Pradesh is now focusing on connecting local businesses and entrepreneurs with global markets through exports, foreign investment and international trade opportunities.
## UP’s Export Target And Global Trade Push
During his address, Goyal highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious target of increasing exports to Rs 5 lakh crore by 2030.
He said global trade agreements signed by India are opening new opportunities for manufacturers and entrepreneurs, allowing Indian products to access international markets.
The Union Minister encouraged businesses in Uttar Pradesh to improve product quality, innovation and competitiveness to benefit from emerging global opportunities.
He added that platforms like UPITS are helping local industries connect directly with international buyers, investors and business communities.
## From Investment Challenges To Industrial Growth
Reflecting on the situation before 2017, Goyal said Uttar Pradesh had faced challenges related to investor confidence, business environment and industrial growth.
He pointed out that concerns over law and order, governance issues and lack of industrial confidence had affected the state’s investment prospects.
According to Goyal, the scenario has changed with increased focus on infrastructure, administration, investment policies and industrial development.
He said sectors such as robotics, defence manufacturing and semiconductor-related industries were difficult to imagine earlier but are now becoming part of Uttar Pradesh’s economic roadmap.
## Revenue Growth Fuelling Development Projects
Goyal also highlighted the state’s improved revenue generation and said better governance and administrative reforms have strengthened Uttar Pradesh’s financial position.
He referred to growth in revenue sources, including excise, land registration and mining sectors, saying increased resources have supported investments in roads, airports, industrial infrastructure and welfare projects.
The Union Minister said improved financial management has enabled the state government to move towards stronger fiscal stability and create more opportunities for development.
## UP International Trade Show Becomes Global Business Platform
The Union Minister described UPITS as more than a trade exhibition, calling it a platform connecting Uttar Pradesh’s industries with international markets.
The event showcases products, services and capabilities of businesses from the state while providing opportunities for exporters and entrepreneurs to engage with global buyers.
Goyal said the state’s MSME sector, local brands and traditional industries can benefit significantly from India’s free trade agreements and expanding global market access.
He urged entrepreneurs to focus on innovation, quality standards and global competitiveness to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s presence in international trade.
## Investment, Jobs And Future Growth
The minister said Uttar Pradesh’s investment-friendly environment is attracting companies and business delegations from different sectors.
He highlighted the role of skill development, industrial expansion and international events in creating new opportunities for the state’s youth.
The focus on manufacturing, technology, exports and infrastructure is expected to remain central to Uttar Pradesh’s economic strategy as the state seeks greater participation in global supply chains.
## What Happens Next
With UPITS emerging as a major business platform, attention will now remain on investment commitments, export growth and partnerships between Uttar Pradesh industries and global companies.
The state government is expected to continue focusing on infrastructure development, industrial corridors, MSME expansion and policies aimed at strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position in national and international markets.
