New Delhi: India has achieved a major breakthrough in the PNB scam case. Neerav Modi's brother, Nehal Modi, who was wanted in the fraud case, has been arrested in the United States. The action was taken following requests from the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and ED (Enforcement Directorate), reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The US Justice Department has confirmed that Nehal Modi has been arrested on the basis of the extradition request of the Government of India. Now the legal process of his extradition to the US has started. Nehal Modi is accused of money laundering, i.e., trying to show illegally earned money as legal under Section 3 of India's Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

What happens next?

A case has also been registered against him under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigative agencies say that Nehal Modi deliberately tried to mislead the investigation by getting involved in this scam.

Not only this, but Nehal Modi is also accused of a different fraud in the US. He had taken diamonds worth about 2.6 million dollars (about Rs 21 crore) from LLD Diamonds USA by saying that he would sell them to Costco stores. But he either took a loan by mortgaging those diamonds or sold them at a very low price.

His name has also surfaced in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam in India. It is alleged that Nehal helped his brother Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi and played an active role in this scam of about Rs 13,000 crore.

This is a developing story, stay tuned to Dynamite News for further updates.
