New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has introduced a major change in passport services. From October 28, 2025, all Indian citizens residing in the UAE will be issued chip-enabled e-passports.
This service has been launched under the new Global Passport Service Program (GPSP 2.0), which will make passport services completely digital and secure.
What Is an E-Passport, and How Will It Work?
The new e-passport will have a microchip embedded in it, which will store all the passport holder’s digital information. This will allow information to be scanned instantly during immigration checks.

This technology will reduce travel time and increase both the security and transparency of documents.
New Online Portal Launched
All passport services will now be available through a new portal: mportal.passportindia.gov.in/gpsp. This portal will be operational from October 28, and its use will be mandatory for all applicants.
Now, for passport applications, renewals, or any other service, this new digital platform must be used instead of the old system.
Application Process Made Easier and Faster
With the new portal, applicants can now directly upload their photos, signatures, and necessary documents. This will significantly reduce the time spent at physical centers.
The embassy stated that this facility will reduce inconvenience for applicants and make the application process more transparent.
Minor Errors Will No Longer Be a Major Problem
In the previous system, if there was any error in the application, the entire form had to be filled out again. However, under GPSP 2.0, the BLS service provider will now be able to make minor corrections directly at their level.
