Ahmedabad: A major reshuffle is underway in Gujarat politics. All ministers in the government led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel resigned from their posts today (Thursday). The cabinet expansion will now take place on Friday, 17 October 2025, at 11:30 am.

More Than Half Ministers May Be New

According to a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, approximately 10 new faces may be appointed ministers in the new cabinet, while approximately half of the current ministers may be removed. Current Cabinet Status

Currently, 17 ministers, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, are part of the Gujarat cabinet. These include eight cabinet ministers and eight ministers of state (MoS). According to the Constitution, 15 percent of the total 182 seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, or a maximum of 27, can be appointed as ministers.

Move Taken Following Organizational Changes

Earlier in early October, Jagdish Vishwakarma, a former Minister of State in the Gujarat government, was appointed the new President of the State BJP. He replaced Union Minister C.R. Patil. It is believed that this organizational change is intended to infuse new energy into the cabinet.

Bhupendra Patel’s Second Innings

It is noteworthy that Bhupendra Patel was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat for the second time on December 12, 2022. Since then, he has maintained a balance between the organization and the government. Now, he is once again preparing to move forward with a new team.

Significance of the Cabinet Expansion

Political analysts believe that this cabinet expansion will not only give a new direction to the government but will also balance the internal strife within the BJP. The party also wants to strengthen its foundation for the 2026 elections by giving opportunities to new faces.

All eyes are now on Friday morning, when Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with his new team, will begin a new journey to shape the future of Gujarat.
