Gurugram: A shocking hit-and-run case from Gurugram’s Golf Course Road has brought road safety concerns back into focus after a woman biker was allegedly rammed by a car during a suspected road rage incident.
The incident came to light after the biker, identified as Sia, shared a video of the incident on social media. The footage, recorded through a camera mounted on the motorcycle, showed the moments leading up to the collision and the aftermath of the crash.
Following the viral spread of the video, Gurugram Police’s Social Media Monitoring Cell took note of the incident and initiated action. Police registered an FIR at Sector 56 Police Station on Monday after taking suo motu cognisance of the matter.
Authorities are now examining video evidence, vehicle details and other available information to identify the person driving the car at the time of the incident.
According to the biker’s account shared online, the incident occurred on Sunday, while she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 sports bike with a group of fellow riders on Golf Course Road. She alleged that a white sedan repeatedly came dangerously close to her motorcycle and that the occupants of the vehicle behaved aggressively. The rider claimed that she tried to maintain distance and continue moving forward to avoid confrontation.
The biker alleged that the situation escalated when the car allegedly continued following her before hitting her motorcycle. The impact caused her to fall on the road while her bike reportedly skidded several metres away. The entire sequence was captured through an action camera installed on the motorcycle, providing investigators with crucial visual evidence.
The video quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing strong reactions from users who expressed concern over increasing incidents of aggressive driving and road violence.
Several users tagged Gurugram Police, Haryana Police and traffic authorities, demanding immediate identification of the driver and strict legal action.
The incident also highlighted the growing role of digital evidence in modern policing, where viral videos, dashcams and action cameras are increasingly helping authorities investigate road-related offences.
Gurugram Police officials said the case came to their attention through the department’s social media monitoring system. ACP Abhilaksh Joshi said the police had registered an FIR at Sector 56 Police Station after reviewing the video showing a four-wheeler hitting a woman two-wheeler rider.
The police are currently tracing the vehicle involved in the incident and verifying the identity of the accused. Officials have stated that the woman rider will also be included in the investigation process and further action will be taken based on evidence and facts that emerge.
The police have also reiterated that cases involving rash and negligent driving will not be ignored and action can be initiated even when complaints are delayed if credible information is available.
After the incident, Sia expressed concern over road safety and highlighted the fear faced by commuters when confronted with aggressive driving behaviour.
She shared details of the incident online and urged authorities to take action against drivers who allegedly endanger the lives of other road users and leave after causing accidents.
Her post triggered a wider discussion about safety on Gurugram roads, especially on high-speed corridors where incidents involving speeding, lane violations and road rage frequently become a concern.
According to the biker’s account, one of her friends attempted to stop the vehicle after the collision. The car reportedly stopped briefly at a traffic signal, where the friend confronted the driver over the crash. However, the vehicle allegedly left the spot shortly afterwards.
Police are now analysing all available evidence, including the viral footage, vehicle registration details and statements from people connected with the incident.
Gurugram, known as one of India’s biggest corporate and commercial hubs, has witnessed growing concerns over road discipline and traffic-related incidents.
The latest case has once again raised questions about reckless driving, aggressive behaviour among motorists and the need for stronger enforcement mechanisms on busy urban roads.
Experts believe that increased surveillance, stricter implementation of traffic laws and faster legal action can play an important role in reducing dangerous driving incidents.
