Dhaka: Bangladesh is once again witnessing a phase of heightened violence and tension, with a series of recent murders and attacks raising serious concerns over law and order in the country.

Amid this backdrop, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has made a significant revelation in the murder case of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Police officials stated that two prime suspects accused of involvement in the killing have fled Bangladesh and crossed into India.

According to the DMP, Sharif Usman Hadi was shot dead, triggering widespread outrage. During the course of the investigation, authorities identified Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh as the main accused. Police claim that the duo escaped the country with assistance from local contacts and crossed the Bangladesh–India border through the Haluaghat area, which lies adjacent to India’s Meghalaya state.

Speaking at a press conference at the DMP Media Center, Additional Police Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam said that after entering India, the accused reportedly met an individual who helped them continue their journey. The two then travelled by taxi towards a city in Meghalaya, according to preliminary findings.

Bangladeshi media reports further quoted police officials as saying that authorities have received unofficial information suggesting that two individuals who allegedly assisted the accused may have been detained by Indian authorities. However, formal confirmation is awaited.

The DMP said investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to coordinate with relevant agencies to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
