New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Diwali, wishing that the festival of lights illuminate people’s lives with “harmony, happiness and prosperity”.
Meanwhile, Ayodhya made history by lighting over 26 lakh oil lamps, securing a Guinness World Record and turning the holy city into a glowing symbol of faith and celebration.

PM Modi Wishes for Positivity and Prosperity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning to greet the nation on the festival of lights.
“Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us,” PM Modi said on X.

PM urged for Swadeshi purchases during the festive season
In addition to Diwali wishes, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of supporting domestic manufacturing and artisans. He encouraged citizens to make Swadeshi purchases during the festive season.

CM Yogi Calls Diwali a Celebration of Truth and Positivity
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his Diwali greetings through a heartfelt post on X. He described the festival as more than a celebration calling it a spiritual movement for national resurgence.
“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of you on the grand festival of Diwali, the sacred symbol of the eternal victory of truth, righteousness, and positivity! The festival of lights is not merely a ritual of lighting lamps, but a beacon of hope in the soul, a pulse of harmony in society, and a resolve for national resurgence,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also offered prayers, invoking the blessings of Lord Ram and Sita.
“May the grace of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Janaki illuminate not only our homes but also our hearts, and may the lamp of faith, enthusiasm, and zeal be kindled in everyone’s life—this is my prayer. Jai Jai Siyaram!” he added.
Ayodhya Breaks Record with 26 Lakh Diyas on Saryu Banks
While leaders conveyed messages of unity and celebration, Ayodhya witnessed a historic moment. On the eve of Deepotsav, the city entered the Guinness World Records by lighting 2,617,215 earthen lamps (diyas) along the banks of the sacred Saryu River.
The event was organised by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department in collaboration with the Ayodhya District Administration. It featured synchronized diya-lighting by more than 30,000 volunteers, including students from universities and colleges and members of various departments.
