
Haryana-Registered Scorpio Falls Into Chenab River (Img: X)
New Delhi: Five people were killed after a Haryana-registered Mahindra Scorpio SUV lost control and plunged into the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Saturday.
The tragic accident took place in the Dachhan area when the vehicle, bearing registration number HR29 AG 0648, was travelling from Dangdaru to Sounder. According to officials, the SUV skidded off the road near Yenwan in Dangdaru at around 10:50 am before falling into the river.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, teams from the Dachhan Police Station, along with local residents and volunteers, reached the spot and started rescue operations.
Officials said efforts were made to locate and evacuate the occupants of the vehicle. The injured, if any, were shifted to nearby medical facilities, while further details about the victims were awaited.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those killed in the accident. Rescue and relief operations continued as officials gathered more information about the incident.
The accident has once again highlighted the challenges of driving on the mountainous roads of Jammu and Kashmir, where sharp turns, difficult terrain and unpredictable conditions often pose risks to commuters. Further details are awaited from the administration and police officials.
