Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, following the alleged attempted attack on him, said that he had never harmed anyone and did not know the attacker. Security agencies have arrested the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah said he had no information about the attacker. He said, "I have never harmed anyone. I don't know who the person who attacked me is."
He also said that the full truth of the incident will only be revealed after an investigation.
Farooq Abdullah said that after the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called him to inquire about his health and safety.
Abdullah said, "Amit Shah called me last night and inquired about my well-being. He informed me that the accused has been arrested and a thorough investigation will be conducted. He also said that I will be informed of what happened after the investigation is complete."
According to officials, the accused has been arrested in connection with the attempted attack. Police and security agencies are interrogating him to determine whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the attack.
Investigating agencies are currently investigating the attacker's background and his possible motive.
According to reports, Farooq Abdullah was returning from the ceremony when a man suddenly approached him. The accused pointed a gun at his head from behind and attempted to shoot him. However, security personnel immediately responded, apprehending the attacker and snatching the pistol from his hand.
Following the incident, some people present at the scene apprehended the accused and assaulted him. Police later took him into custody.
According to police, the attacker has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. He is approximately 63 years old and a resident of the Old Mandi area of Jammu. During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he runs a shop in Purani Mandi.
