New Delhi: Indian intelligence agencies have issued fresh warnings that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) may attempt terror attacks around Independence Day, prompting heightened vigilance across borders and major urban centres. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) says security forces are likely to be heavily focused on August 15 celebrations in Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir, creating a window the ISI seeks to exploit.
According to IB inputs, the first priority for ISI-backed elements is to infiltrate terrorists into Jammu & Kashmir ahead of the national holiday. Parallel efforts are expected along the Bangladesh border, with attempts to move operatives into India’s eastern and northeastern regions.

IB officials note that intercepted cross-border communications indicate the Pakistani security establishment is under strain. Unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Balochistan has put the state on the defensive, with separatist militancy and civilian protests challenging its authority.
In this context, Indian agencies believe Islamabad may try to divert attention from internal failures by engineering a high-profile attack on India around a symbolic date. A successful strike before or on August 15 would serve both domestic propaganda and external pressure objectives.
In response, central and state security agencies have been placed on high alert. Along the Pakistan border, the Border Security Force has launched “Operation Alert,” intensifying patrolling, surveillance and coordination with local intelligence units.
On the Bangladesh frontier, the government plans to set up nearly 40 Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau units across bordering districts in West Bengal to plug gaps in human and technical intelligence. Additional checkpoints, night patrols and drone monitoring are being deployed in sensitive sectors.
Inside the country, security plans for Independence Day events have been tightened, particularly for flag-hoisting ceremonies, political rallies and large public gatherings. Agencies are focusing on crowd management, access control, and rapid response teams to counter possible fidayeen-style attacks, IEDs or vehicle-borne threats.
While no specific plot has been publicly detailed, the pattern of recent alerts—covering J&K, Punjab, Delhi and eastern border states—has led to a coordinated push to pre-empt infiltration and disrupt modules before they can execute attacks.
