Srinagar: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Wednesday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness across the Central Kashmir Range, directing security forces to maintain heightened vigilance and strengthen preventive measures.
The high-level security meeting, held at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, focused on the existing security environment, deployment strategy, counter-insurgency operations and measures to ensure peace and public safety across Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts.
The review comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to maintain a robust security grid in the region through coordinated operations, intelligence sharing and area domination exercises.
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Range, Senior Superintendents of Police from Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal, SSP PCR Kashmir, senior police officers, Sub-Divisional Police Officers and other field-level officials.
During the meeting, officers presented updates on the security situation in their respective areas and briefed the IGP about operational challenges, deployment arrangements and steps being taken to maintain law and order. The discussions focused on strengthening coordination between different security units and ensuring quick response mechanisms at the field level.
IGP Sujit Kumar reviewed the overall security grid across Central Kashmir and assessed the preparedness of police formations deployed in sensitive areas. He directed officers to maintain a high level of alertness and ensure that security arrangements remain flexible and responsive according to changing ground situations.
The IGP emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring, effective deployment planning and timely assessment of security requirements in vulnerable locations. Officials were instructed to regularly review security measures and strengthen arrangements wherever necessary.
During the meeting, the IGP stressed the need for sustained counter-insurgency efforts, improved intelligence coordination and stronger area domination strategies.
Officers were directed to intensify naka checking at vulnerable points and increase surveillance along inter-district routes and other sensitive areas.
The instructions also included maintaining close monitoring of movement patterns, improving coordination among field units and ensuring preventive security measures remain effective.
Security agencies have traditionally relied on a combination of ground intelligence, surveillance networks and coordinated field operations to address emerging threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
The IGP highlighted the importance of better coordination among different police formations and security units operating in Central Kashmir.
Field officers were asked to maintain regular communication, review operational requirements and ensure that preventive measures are implemented effectively.
The emphasis remained on creating a strong security framework capable of responding quickly to any emerging challenge while maintaining public safety.
