Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several States Today, Delhi-NCR Faces Waterlogging Crisis (Img: Pinterest)
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on Saturday, with many regions likely to witness heavy to very heavy showers. The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several areas.
The latest forecast indicates active monsoon conditions over northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, western and southern parts of India. Authorities have advised people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious due to possible flooding, waterlogging and disruption of daily activities.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive widespread rainfall, while Delhi, Chandigarh and Haryana may also witness significant showers. The IMD has issued a warning for isolated heavy rainfall in East Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan.
East Rajasthan is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain at some places, increasing the risk of water accumulation and local flooding.
Eastern India is expected to remain under strong monsoon influence. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive widespread rainfall. A very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Odisha.
Bihar is also expected to continue receiving widespread rain, while northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh may witness heavy showers at isolated locations.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall on Friday caused severe waterlogging across Delhi-NCR, affecting traffic movement and creating difficulties for commuters.
South Delhi’s MB Road near the Air Force Station witnessed major flooding, with water levels reportedly reaching several feet. Vehicles were stranded, and emergency assistance was required in several affected areas.
Major roads including ITO, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Wazirabad Road, Kirti Nagar, Shaheen Bagh and areas near Badarpur Border Metro Station faced slow traffic due to waterlogging.
The IMD has also issued warnings for fishermen against venturing into certain sea areas, including coastal regions near Karnataka, Kerala and Oman, due to rough weather conditions.
