Patna: The impact of Cyclone Arnab and its associated weather systems is being felt across Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several districts on Friday, October 30. The weather department has placed Sitamarhi and Madhubani under a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and lightning. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain particularly cautious.
Darbhanga, Sheohar, East Champaran and West Champaran have been placed under an orange alert. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely in these areas. Patna and several other districts are under yellow-level weather warnings. The state capital is also experiencing cloudy conditions and rainfall, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperature.
The changing weather has brought a winter-like feel to parts of Bihar. The IMD has forecasted lower maximum temperatures in several areas following the rainfall. According to the weather department, adverse conditions may continue through October 31, 2026.
Heavy rainfall could cause waterlogging and disrupt road traffic, while lightning and strong winds may create risks for people outdoors. Residents have been advised to stay inside safe buildings during thunderstorms, avoid open fields and refrain from taking shelter under trees. People should also stay away from exposed locations during lightning activity. IMD has urged residents to follow official weather bulletins and district administration advisories rather than unverified messages.
With Cyclone Arnab's remnants influencing weather conditions across eastern India, people in affected areas are being advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
