New Delhi: Heavy rainfall continued to lash several parts of the country, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Mumbai, disrupting normal life and triggering waterlogging, traffic snarls and flood-like conditions in many areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts across several regions, with Delhi recording 34.9 mm of rainfall between 2:30 am and 5:30 am on Friday.

Are Schools Closed in Delhi-NCR Today?

So far, Ghaziabad is the only major NCR district to announce a holiday for all schools from Nursery to Class 12 due to heavy rainfall. The district administration has issued official orders keeping educational institutions closed for the day.

However, no school holiday has been announced in Delhi, Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar), Gurugram or Faridabad. Schools and colleges in these cities are expected to function as usual unless local authorities issue fresh directions.

IMD Issues Weather Alerts

The IMD has forecast more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across Delhi-NCR. An orange alert remains in place for Delhi, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, while Noida and Gurugram are under a yellow alert. The weather department has warned of localised flooding, waterlogging, poor visibility and traffic disruptions.

Rain Disrupts Normal Life

Heavy showers on Thursday and early Friday caused widespread waterlogging across several parts of Delhi-NCR, affecting road traffic and daily commuting. In Noida and Ghaziabad, several roads remained submerged, leading to long traffic jams and vehicle breakdowns. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Educational institutions may issue separate advisories depending on local weather conditions.

No Advisory for Offices

No official work-from-home advisory or office closure has been announced for government or private offices across Delhi-NCR. Employees have been asked to follow instructions issued by their respective organisations if weather conditions worsen.
