New Delhi: There is no immediate hope of relief from the changing weather conditions in parts of northwest India and central India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and snowfall are expected to continue in the western Himalayan regions and surrounding plains until February 3. Strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are also expected during this period, which could further intensify the cold.

Minimum Temperatures Expected to Drop

Due to the impact of rain and snowfall, minimum temperatures may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. Dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh during the morning and night. Delhi-NCR may also experience cloudy skies, light rain, and cold conditions.

Western Disturbance Causes Weather

According to the IMD, an active western disturbance is present in the lower and middle troposphere over northern Pakistan and adjoining areas. Additionally, a low-pressure area persists over southern Haryana and northern Rajasthan. Another new western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region between February 5 and 7.

Cold winds intensify again in Kashmir

After three days of respite, the Kashmir Valley was once again hit by cold winds. On Sunday morning, light rain fell in several plains, including Srinagar, while snowfall was recorded in higher altitudes. This resulted in a drop of about four degrees in the maximum temperature. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or snowfall in higher altitudes on February 2 and 3.

Weather wreaks havoc in Haryana and Himachal

Six districts in Haryana, including Karnal, Yamunanagar, and Rohtak, experienced light rain and hailstorms at some places. Meanwhile, snowfall in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Chamba districts has intensified the cold. Fifty-four sheep and goats were killed in Solan due to lightning. A thunderstorm alert has been issued for the next 24 hours in the state.

Some relief from cold in Rajasthan

Rising temperatures in Rajasthan have brought partial relief from the harsh cold. Most places recorded minimum temperatures above 7 degrees Celsius. However, due to the influence of a western disturbance, Ajmer received light rain, and the weather is expected to remain the same for the next day or two.
