IMD Weather Alert: 15 States Face Heavy Rain Fury as Bay of Bengal Deep Depression Intensifies

New Delhi: India is witnessing a sudden change in weather conditions just before the monsoon withdrawal. A deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for 15 states, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall along with lightning and thunderstorms. According to the weather department, strong winds moving at speeds between 40 and 85 kmph are likely in coastal and adjoining regions due to the impact of the weather system.

UP and Bihar on Alert as Heavy Rain Forecast

The next 48 hours are expected to remain crucial for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

Areas including Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Basti, Ballia and Deoria may witness intense rainfall activity. The weather conditions are expected to continue until September 27.

Bihar has also been placed under a weather alert, with forecasts of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds reaching 50 to 70 kmph. Authorities have advised people to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay away from trees and electric poles.

Landslide Risk Rises in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

Hill states are also facing increased weather risks. Uttarakhand has been issued a heavy rainfall warning, while Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience intense rainfall in districts including Kangra, Mandi and Shimla until September 28.

Continuous rainfall may increase the possibility of landslides, road disruptions and rising water levels in rivers and streams. People living near vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert.

Delhi-NCR Likely to Witness Rain on September 26-27

The national capital and nearby regions are also expected to see a shift in weather conditions. Delhi may experience cloudy skies, while rainfall accompanied by winds of 30 to 50 kmph is likely on September 26 and 27.

The rainfall may bring relief from humidity and lower temperatures, but waterlogging problems could occur in low-lying areas.
