New Delhi: Heavy monsoon rainfall continued to affect several regions across India over the weekend, disrupting normal life and prompting weather alerts in multiple states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the current spell of intense rainfall is likely to persist over the next few days, with several areas expected to receive heavy to very heavy showers.

Delhi Likely to Receive Rain Till July 9

The national capital experienced light to moderate rainfall in several localities, bringing temporary relief from humid conditions. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. According to the weather department, intermittent rainfall is expected to continue until July 9, and residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of adverse weather.

Mumbai Faces Waterlogging and Transport Disruptions

Mumbai and surrounding districts continued to receive persistent rainfall, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and severe traffic congestion. Local train services were also affected due to heavy showers. Following the IMD's red alert, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation declared a holiday for schools and colleges to ensure public safety as weather conditions remained unstable.

Several States on High Alert

Apart from Maharashtra, the IMD has issued red alerts for parts of Odisha, West Bengal and Kerala, where heavy rainfall is expected to continue. In Maharashtra, incidents of tree falls, wall collapses and damage to houses were reported from different locations. Heavy rain also impacted parts of Punjab and Gujarat, while Kerala authorities continued to monitor rising river and reservoir levels.

Palghar Under Red Alert

Light rainfall was reported in Palghar district from early Sunday morning under heavily overcast skies. The IMD's red alert remains in force for the district, with officials warning that rainfall may intensify during the day. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as the situation develops.

The weather department has cautioned that the active monsoon system is likely to keep rainfall activity elevated across large parts of the country in the coming days.
