New Delhi: The INDIA Bloc’s protest against the Election Commission of India gathered momentum in Delhi as opposition leaders and party workers raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar joined the demonstration near the Supreme Court, calling for the scrapping of SIR and fresh elections in constituencies that went to the polls after the revision. He stressed that protecting every citizen’s rights must remain a priority.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav spoke to a large gathering as opposition leaders intensified their campaign against the poll panel. SP workers raised slogans alleging vote theft and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Visuals from Connaught Place showed protesters travelling in buses and marching on foot while waving Congress flags. A large banner depicting the Constitution of India stood out during the demonstration. Adding an unusual twist, a protester dressed as Batman said he had come to “clean the darkness” surrounding politics. The protest reflects the opposition’s escalating challenge to SIR and the Election Commission.
