India-Japan Summit In Delhi: Why this meeting matters for trade and security

India and Japan are set to strengthen economic and defence ties during a key Delhi summit. Leaders will discuss investment, technology, security and ways to protect supply chains amid growing global uncertainties.

New Delhi : Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has arrived in India today on a Three day visit for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will focus on boosting trade, investment and Strategic cooperation between the Two asian partners.

The visit follows Modi's trip to Tokyo last year, when Japan pledged to more than double its investments In India over $61 billion in the next decade, highlighting deepening economic ties.The summit will review progress across trade, technology, infrastructure, defence and people to people ties, while also addressing regional and global issues.

Both the Prime Ministers will also attend business events with executives from both countries. About 1,400 japanese companies operate in India, nearly half of them in manufacturing.Japan is among largest investors,backing major infrastructure projects including a high speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Both countries are expected to build security interests and defence cooperation in view of the uncertain geopolitics disrupting markets and supply chains.

The US President Trump administration's erratic tariffs, recurring conflict in the Gulf, increased vulnerability of maritime trade routes, and China's growing strategic and economic heft have forced both New Delhi and Tokyo to rethink
long-held assumptions about globalisation, sources said.

The result is likely to be a summit focused on insulating their economies from external shocks.Discussions will centre on semi-conductors, artificial Intelligence,critical minerals, clean energy, investment, innovation and digital infrastructure as also on defence and a possible Yen-Rupee trade deal.
