New Delhi: At the United Nations (UN), India has once again emphasized the need for global reforms. India asserts that while the world has evolved, the UN Security Council (UNSC) continues to operate within an outdated framework. Consequently, it is imperative to modernize the Council and make it more representative.
India specifically championed the cause of developing nations, collectively known as the Global South. These countries account for a significant portion of the global population and contribute substantially to the world; yet, their representation on decision-making platforms remains disproportionately low. India maintains that granting them permanent membership would result in global decisions that are more balanced and equitable.
India proposed that any reforms to the UNSC must include the induction of new permanent members. Priority for such membership, India argued, should be accorded to nations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Furthermore, India expressed its support for the African Model, noting that its own perspective aligns closely with that framework.

India did not limit its critique to the Security Council alone; it also raised questions regarding the global economic system. India contended that the current financial architecture is not entirely beneficial for developing nations. While substantial funding is required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the existing system is inadequate to meet this demand.
India proposed reforming international financial institutions to amplify the collective voice of developing nations. Additionally, it advocated for the promotion of digital public infrastructure to accelerate development and ensure greater transparency.
India has made it unequivocally clear that it is now essential to foster a more inclusive and balanced global order. Until all nations are accorded an equal opportunity, the pursuit of global development will remain incomplete.
India's initiative is not merely self-serving; rather, it champions the cause of all those nations that have long been demanding equitable representation on the global stage. In the times to come, this issue is poised to gain even greater prominence.
