New Delhi: The CCS meeting was followed by a press conference by the Ministry of External Affairs. Considering the gravity of the terror attack, the CCS decided on the following stringent measures:

  • Indus Water Treaty (1960): It will be suspended with immediate effect, until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism.
  • Attari Integrated Check Post: It will be closed immediately. Those who have crossed with valid documents will have to return before 1 May 2025.
  • SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme: Pakistani nationals will not be allowed to visit India. SAARC visas issued earlier will be cancelled. Pakistani nationals present in India will have to leave the country within 48 hours.
  • Pakistan High Commission (New Delhi): Defence, naval and air advisers have been declared persona non grata. They will have to leave India within a week. India will also withdraw equivalent advisers from its High Commission in Islamabad.
  • Reduction in diplomatic staff: The number of staff in the High Commissions of both the countries will be reduced from 55 to 30. This process will be completed by May 1, 2025.

The CCS reviewed the security situation and directed all forces to remain alert. The terrorist attack on Tuesday in the tourist destination Pahalgam shook the whole country. The terrorists fired indiscriminately at the tourists, killing 28 innocent people, most of whom were tourists.

According to the Dynamite News correspondent, terrorists in army uniform targeted tourists riding ponies, picnicking and roaming near shops in the Bysaran Valley of South Kashmir. 28 people have died in the attack, including two foreigners and two local citizens. At least 24 people have been injured in the attack.

After the killing of innocent civilians by terrorists, the government is preparing to take big action. Government is considering surgical/air strike like Uri-Pulwama.
