Srinagar: The Indian Army organised a veterinary healthcare camp in Parthan village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, providing medical assistance for livestock and benefiting 120 local residents under its community outreach initiative, Operation Sadbhavana. The camp was organised by the 62 Rashtriya Rifles (Dogra) Battalion under the operational area of Watrehal Camp, with a focus on improving animal healthcare and supporting villagers whose livelihoods depend on livestock and animal husbandry.
During the camp, livestock belonging to local residents underwent health examinations and received treatment wherever required. Veterinary medicines were also distributed to help livestock owners address common animal health concerns. The initiative focused on promoting awareness about animal hygiene, disease prevention and responsible livestock management. Timely veterinary assistance can help prevent illnesses, protect livestock productivity and reduce the financial burden on rural households.
Veterinary services were delivered in coordination with the civil administration, with Dr Khalid Bashir and Dr Zubair Ahmad from the Animal Husbandry Department, Watrehal, Budgam, participating in the programme. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Major Ujjawal Giri, while Captain Jeya Prakash served as the Regimental Medical Officer, according to information released by the organisers.
The veterinary camp was organised under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army’s outreach initiative aimed at supporting communities and strengthening engagement with local residents in Jammu and Kashmir. By bringing veterinary services closer to villagers, the programme sought to address practical healthcare needs while encouraging interaction among Army personnel, veterinary experts and the local population.
Animal husbandry remains an important source of income and economic security for many rural households. Access to veterinary services plays a crucial role in maintaining animal health, preventing the spread of diseases and safeguarding the livelihoods of livestock owners.
