New Delhi: In the year 2024-25, 3.27 crore passengers could not travel by train due to non-confirmation of tickets. This problem is increasing every year, which shows the huge shortage of seats in the railways. Although the Railways has taken steps to stop ticket fraud, the challenge of confirmed seats remains. This shocking information has been given by the Indian Railways in its reply under the Right to Information.

In fact, crores of passengers travel every day in Indian Railways, one of the largest rail networks in the world. Especially the waiting list of mail, express and superfast trains is very long. At the same time, last year 3.27 crore people took train tickets, but their tickets could not be confirmed during the journey.

RTI activist Chandrashekhar Gaur from Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh has put forward these figures, which are quite worrying. In the last 5 years, the number of people traveling without confirmed tickets is continuously increasing. According to RTI, 3.27 crore passengers who booked train tickets in 2024-25 found that their tickets were not confirmed after the final chart was made. This shows that there is a huge difference between the number of seats and passengers in the train.

Constantly increasing numbers

According to the data, in 2023-24, about 3 crore people could not travel due to non-confirmation of tickets. At the same time, this figure was 2.72 crore in 2022-23 and 1.65 crore in 2021. Obviously, the waiting list of trains is getting longer day by day.

Year Number of passengers
2024-25 3.27 crores
2023-24 2.96 crores
2022-23 2.72 crores
2021-22 1.65 crores

Railways still far behind
RTI figures show that the number of passengers traveling by train is increasing continuously. Due to the limited number of trains, they are not able to get confirmed tickets. Indian Railways is progressing rapidly along with modernity, but the railways are still far behind in meeting the demands of the passengers.

Changes in railway rules
In the recent past, the railways have made many efforts to move towards improvement. Recently IRCTC had closed 2.5 crore user IDs. At the same time, now the charts of trains are made 24 hours in advance, so that passengers can know whether their ticket is confirmed or not, earlier this time was only 4 hours.
