Ayodhya: The mother of Lucknow-based IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra was allegedly murdered during a robbery at her residence in Ayodhya on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Indra Devi, was found dead with a piece of cloth stuffed inside her mouth, while her jewellery was reportedly missing from the house.
After committing the crime, the accused allegedly locked the room from outside and fled from the spot. Following the incident, Ayodhya Range DIG Somen Verma and Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh reached the crime scene, inspected the area and directed officials to ensure the swift arrest of those involved.
According to reports, IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra, a native of Rudha village's Dhavrua hamlet in Malipur, is currently posted in Lucknow as the officer responsible for housing construction. He is also associated with the management of Gajadharnath Maryada Inter College.
The incident took place on Independence Day. Ashutosh had visited the school along with his mother, Indra Devi, to attend a function. After the event, he returned to Lucknow between 6 PM and 7 PM, while his mother stayed back to supervise pending electrical wiring work at the school.
Ashutosh spoke with his mother over the phone around 10 PM on Saturday night. The next morning, he tried calling her again at around 6 AM, but she did not respond.
Later, domestic help Piyari Devi reached the house at around 9 AM and discovered the situation, following which information about the incident was given to the authorities.
Police teams have started an investigation into the murder-cum-robbery case and are examining all possible leads to identify and arrest the accused.
