His detention came amid a major security crackdown to prevent demonstrators from gathering in the national capital.

The detention came after Rathee publicly indicated that he intended to participate in the protest. Police had cited restrictions on gatherings and the absence of permission for the demonstration as reasons for preventive action.
Rathee was subsequently released in the early hours of Sunday, although details surrounding the conditions of his release were not immediately available.
The CJP had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The campaign centres on allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The allegations have become a major point of political contention, with opposition groups and activists raising concerns about the electoral process.
Authorities had denied permission for the planned gathering, citing security and procedural concerns. Rathee’s detention was part of a broader preventive operation targeting people expected to participate in the demonstration.
Delhi witnessed extensive security arrangements on Saturday, with police deploying personnel at key locations and restricting access to areas around the proposed protest venue.
Thousands of people, including activists, students and political leaders, were detained as authorities moved to prevent demonstrators from reaching Jantar Mantar. The operation also affected traffic and access to parts of central Delhi.
Meanwhile, the CJP renewed its call for a fresh demonstration on Sunday, October 11, indicating that the campaign would continue despite the police action.
Rathee’s release marks a significant development in the ongoing protest episode, even as the status of the detained CJP leadership and the organisation’s next steps remain central to the unfolding situation.
