Kishtwar: Security forces eliminated three terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district during a fierce encounter under Operation Trashi-I. The operation was conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of armed militants in the area.
The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the operation in an official statement, saying teams acted on specific inputs gathered from intelligence agencies and ground surveillance.

The encounter erupted in the Passerkut area of Chatroo around 10:30 am when security forces surrounded a suspected hideout inside a mud house located near forest terrain.
Officials said the militants opened fire as troops approached, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During the intense confrontation, the structure caught fire, and the bodies of the slain terrorists were later found charred beyond recognition.
Security personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles and ammunition from the site, indicating the terrorists were heavily armed.
Among the killed militants was reportedly notorious JeM commander Saifullah, who had infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir nearly five years ago. Authorities said he was allegedly involved in multiple attacks targeting security forces in the region.

Intelligence inputs suggest he played a key role in orchestrating a deadly attack in July 2024 in which four soldiers lost their lives. Officials added that he had managed to escape several previous encounters before being neutralised in this operation.
The Chatroo forest belt has witnessed multiple gunfights in recent months, reflecting heightened militant activity and counter-terror efforts. Last month alone, nearly six encounters were reported in the area, resulting in casualties on both sides.
Security agencies said operations will continue to eliminate remaining threats and maintain stability in the region.
