‘Can’t Leave Without Justice’: Jharkhand Aspirants’ Protest Over Job Crisis Intensifies

Years of waiting, broken hopes and a fight for justice — Jharkhand job aspirants continue their protest in Ranchi, demanding transparency in recruitment and a future they believe they have earned.

Ranchi: The protests by job aspirants in Jharkhand have now turned into a more widespread movement to seek transparency in government recruitments and reform in the education system due to alleged irregularities.

The movement is being led by a large number of students who believe that their hard work for years is now being hampered by the delayed process of recruitments along with the alleged leaking of papers. Many aspirants have come to Ranchi and some have gone on a hunger strike in rain.

“My daughter says Mummy, let’s go home… but I need justice”

One of the prominent figures involved in the hunger strike is 30-year-old Brahmanand Kumar Mahato who holds a PhD degree from Ramgarh and is currently seated at the base of the statue of Jaipal Singh Munda at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium at Ranchi for the past four days.

Lying on a small mat, Mahato revealed that he never even thought about being part of the hunger strike but is protesting against the injustice in order to gain justice.

“I do not know for how long I have to sit here, but if it takes me to get justice, then I am ready,” he said.

Another one of the protesters from Lohardaga is Anandi Kumari who brings her young daughter along to join the protest whenever she is asked by her daughter to leave as she keeps saying to her “Mummy, let’s go home.”

Years of Waiting for Government Jobs

Many protestors claim that they have been struggling for years now. Mohammad Shamsher Alam, who is a postgraduate and B.Ed graduate from Dhanbad, says that he has been waiting for an appointment even after qualifying for a recruitment test a decade back.

According to him, there are thousands of aspirants waiting for appointments, along with uncertainty regarding the process of recruitment.

Political Leaders Get Involved In Protest Discussions

The protests have gained the interest of political organizations, with the opposition leaders attending the place of the protest and backing the claims of the aspiring candidates.

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, said that the government is seriously looking into the issue and investigations are being conducted on the accused parties.

But the protesters want action, not promises.

A Battle Beyond One Test

While the initial fight was against the recruitment process, the issue has since then transformed into an issue regarding the future of the youth of Jharkhand.

For many test-takers, it is not only about one test but a long struggle and their quest for a recruitment process that is justified.

As the hunger strike continues, the protesters remain resolute in their demands – they will not budge unless they feel that justice has been done.
