Ranchi: There has been a tight security arrangement in the capital city of Jharkhand, Ranchi, as thousands of aspirants who have applied for the recruitment examination under JPSC and JSSC are planning to conduct a ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ protest. As per the spokesperson of Ranchi Police, they have made ample preparation to face the situation peacefully and there will be no legal action against peaceful protesters.

According to SP Ranchi city Paras Rana, there would be precautionary force deployment at crucial places since a huge number of students will take part in the rally tomorrow towards the state Assembly. He further informed that the police force will make sure that the agitation does not turn violent in any way.

Police clarify about pellet guns in viral video

Following the viral video showing security personnel carrying what looked like pellet guns, Ranchi Police has come up with a clarification.

According to SP Paras Rana, the weapon shown in the video is a paintball gun, which is used to identify troublemakers when handling crowds. If they carried any pellet guns, Rana said, these would only be used for emergencies.

The clarification comes at a time when student associations are stepping up protests against examinations irregularities.

Students reject government’s offer, want CBI to investigate

The announcement came after discussions held between student leaders and the government team. Despite the government agreeing to look into the cancellation of some examinations, including the 14th JPSC Civil Services Exam and backlog exam, the students stated that their main requirement of investigating the CGL exam by the CBI was unfulfilled.

While student leaders stated that the Assembly protest would continue, they assured that the agitation would be peaceful.

"We will continue our Vidhan Sabha gherao peacefully. Our demand for a CBI inquiry remains unchanged," said student leader Kunal.

Political pressure builds up after the resignations of the JPSC officials

The matter escalated further when three members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission stepped down from their positions. The resignations of Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda and Jamal Ahmed were accepted by the Governor of Jharkhand, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, on the advice of the state government.

The demonstrations carried out by the students have been going on for several days now.
