Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Legislature Party on Sunday held a crucial meeting in Srinagar ahead of the Autumn Session of the J&K Legislative Assembly, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.
The meeting focused on the upcoming legislative agenda, issues concerning the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the party’s strategy for the session.
The meeting was chaired by NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and attended by Chief Minister and Leader of the House Omar Abdullah, senior party leaders and NC legislators.
Congress MLAs from the ruling coalition and Independent members supporting the government also participated in the discussions.
NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said such meetings are held before Assembly sessions to coordinate the party’s approach, discuss important issues and prepare legislators for discussions inside the House.
The Autumn Session of the J&K Legislative Assembly will be held from September 21 to September 30. According to the provisional schedule, the session will have seven sitting days.
The first day will begin with obituary references, followed by government business on the following days. Private members’ bills and resolutions are also expected to be taken up during the session.
Several issues affecting people across Jammu and Kashmir are likely to dominate discussions. Opposition parties are expected to raise concerns related to employment opportunities, outsourcing, worker regularisation, reservation policies and power tariffs.
The NC-led government has said its legislators will focus on public concerns, governance matters and legislative work during the session.
With several key issues expected to come up for discussion, the Assembly session is likely to witness detailed debates between the government and opposition over policy decisions and public welfare concerns.
