Baramulla: At least 10 people were injured after an under-construction bridge collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, raising serious concerns over construction safety and project monitoring in the region.

The incident took place in the New Bypass area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla, where the structure suddenly gave way. According to initial information, the bridge was in the last phase of construction and had not yet been opened for public use.

Injured Shifted For Treatment

Soon after the collapse, emergency teams and local authorities rushed to the spot. The injured were rescued and shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Some of the injured are said to be in serious condition. Officials are expected to assess the exact cause of the collapse after a technical inspection of the site.

Safety Concerns Raised

The incident has triggered fresh questions over the quality of construction and safety checks at infrastructure project sites. Since the bridge was still under construction, officials are likely to examine whether proper safety protocols were being followed at the site.

Local residents have demanded a detailed probe into the incident and accountability for any lapses that may have led to the collapse.

Probe Likely Into Collapse

Authorities are expected to investigate the role of the executing agency, contractors and engineers associated with the project. The focus of the probe is likely to remain on construction quality, material use and supervision during the final stage of work.

Further details are awaited from the district administration.
