J&K: Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra suspended for 6 consecutive day amide landslides

Katra: The Mata Vaishno Devi yatra has been suspended for the sixth consecutive day after landslides triggered continuous rainfall in the region on Sunday.

A devastating landslide claimed more than 30 lives and injured 20 others; it took place near the shrine in Katra.

The disaster struck on Tuesday afternoon, when heavy rains triggered a massive landslide near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari, about halfway along the 12-kilometre trek from Katra to the Vaishno Devi temple.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra was suspended on Wednesday due to a landslide and heavy rainfall.

Lieutenant Governor ordered
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the constitution of a high-level three-member committee to investigate the causes of the landslide.

Additional Chief Secretary
Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Jal Shakti, Jammu and Kashmir, will head the committee, which includes the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police, Jammu.

According to an official order, the committee also includes the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police, Jammu.
