NTA Confirms June 21 as New NEET UG 2026 Exam Date
New Delhi: The National Testing Agency on Friday officially announced the revised date for the re-examination of NEET UG 2026 after the earlier examination was cancelled due to the nationwide paper leak controversy. The re-exam will now be conducted on June 21, 2026, following approval from the Government of India.
The agency advised students and parents to depend only on official communication channels for verified updates regarding the examination process.
The NTA clarified that candidates who had already registered for the May 2026 examination cycle will not need to submit fresh applications. Existing registration details, candidature status and examination centre preferences will automatically remain valid for the re-conducted exam.
The testing agency further stated that no additional examination fee would be charged from candidates. Fresh admit cards, however, will be issued before the examination through the official NEET website.
Students have also been urged to carefully verify their application details before fee payment in future examinations, as corrections will not be allowed afterward.
NEET UG 2026, originally conducted on May 3 across more than 5,400 centres in India and abroad, was cancelled on May 12 after allegations of a coordinated paper leak surfaced. The examination involved over 22 lakh medical aspirants and was held across 551 Indian cities and 14 international locations.
According to reports, a “guess paper” containing hundreds of matching questions allegedly circulated on WhatsApp and Telegram groups before the exam. Investigators suspect the leak network originated in Maharashtra and spread through several states, including Rajasthan, Bihar, Kerala, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
Central Bureau of Investigation is currently probing the case under charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, corruption and destruction of evidence. A Delhi court recently granted seven-day CBI custody of five accused linked to the alleged leak case.
Meanwhile, M. K. Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to exempt NEET for the 2026–27 academic year and allow admissions based on Class 12 marks, citing repeated failures and growing public distrust surrounding the examination system.
