Srinagar: The security forces’ hunt for the terrorists linked to the Pahalgam terror attack has intensified, with agencies tracking down key members of the terror network. In the latest operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Hashim Moosa was eliminated in an encounter, officials said.
Officials said Moosa, a former Pakistan Special Service Group (SSG) commando, was among the key operatives being tracked by security agencies for his alleged role in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
After the Pahalgam attack, security agencies launched a major operation to identify and neutralise the terrorists and their support network. Investigators focused on the movement and activities of four key terror operatives allegedly linked to the attack.
The agencies gathered intelligence inputs, tracked their movements and carried out coordinated operations across different areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest action took place in the Korag area near Yousmarg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched the operation after receiving specific intelligence about terrorist presence.
During the exchange of fire, one terrorist was neutralised and later identified as Hashim Moosa, officials said. Security forces continued search operations in the area to ensure that no other militants were present.
According to officials, Hashim Moosa had received specialised training during his association with Pakistan’s elite SSG before becoming part of the LeT network. Security agencies described him as a highly trained operative with experience in planning and executing terror activities.
The elimination of Moosa is being seen by security agencies as a major step in their ongoing counter-terror operations. Forces continue intelligence-based operations to locate remaining members of the terror network and prevent further attacks.
