Bengaluru: Amid the ongoing political tussle over the Chief Minister’s post in Karnataka, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar visited CM Siddaramaiah’s residence on Saturday morning for breakfast. The two leaders discussed the controversy surrounding the Chief Minister’s position.

Later, both leaders held a joint press conference. CM Siddaramaiah said there are no differences between him and Shivakumar, and there will not be any in the future. He added that the misunderstanding was false and spread by the BJP. He also mentioned that they discussed the upcoming 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.

On the other hand, DK Shivakumar said, “People of the state are fully supporting us. We are working according to our promises and fulfilling the wishes of the public. We follow the directions of the party high command. There is no group in the party, and we are still working together. I support everything the Chief Minister said. We are working together.”

Congress High Command Issues Directives to Both Leaders

According to party sources, the Congress leadership has contacted Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar separately and instructed them to resolve the dispute on their own. The senior leadership has clearly stated that there will be no interference from Delhi and that the two leaders must find a solution together in the party's best interest.

Following the high command's directive, Siddaramaiah said on Friday that he had invited Shivakumar for breakfast and that they would discuss the issues in the meeting. He also clarified that his stance will always remain consistent with the high command's directives.

Tension and Balance Within the Party

In the past few months, the tussle over the Chief Minister's post in Karnataka has escalated. DK Shivakumar raised the issue last week, as the Congress government completed two and a half years in office. Shivakumar stated that he was in no hurry to become Chief Minister, but there was enthusiasm among party workers.

Siddaramaiah, considered the most prominent leader of the OBC Kuruba community and also commanding support from Dalits and minorities, is unlikely to be replaced. Meanwhile, Shivakumar, who belongs to the influential Vokkaliga community, aspires to become Chief Minister.
