New Delhi: A massive fire broke out in a commercial building in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area early Friday morning, triggering a large-scale firefighting operation. Approximately 20 to 30 fire tenders were dispatched to the Ghaffar Market area to bring the blaze under control.
According to officials, the incident occurred at 'Puri Plaza,' located on 'Chain Wali Gali' in Block 13 a building that houses several shops selling mobile accessories.
The Karol Bagh police station received information about the fire from the Police Control Room at approximately 1:28 AM. Police personnel arrived at the scene immediately and coordinated with emergency response teams.
It is reported that the fire originated in a shop on the ground floor before spreading throughout the four-story commercial building, raising concerns about extensive damage.
The Delhi Fire Service deployed around 22 fire tenders to contain the blaze. Additional emergency resources, including water tankers and lighting equipment, were also mobilized to assist in the operation.
Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the high density and narrow lanes of the market. The fire was brought under control after several hours of intense effort.
Officials have confirmed that there have been no reports of deaths or injuries. However, the fire has caused significant damage to property.
Police suspect that the fire may have been triggered by a mobile battery overheating or becoming overcharged. However, the exact cause has not yet been officially determined.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will also examine the scene to determine whether any other flammable substances were present that might have contributed to the spread of the fire.
Additionally, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be contacted to conduct a structural safety assessment to determine whether the building is safe.
Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation. This incident has once again drawn attention to fire safety arrangements in Delhi’s densely packed commercial markets.
