Kota: A horrifying incident from Kota, Rajasthan has sparked concern after a five-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by a stray dog outside her house. A CCTV video of the incident showing the child being dragged and bitten by the animal has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place earlier this week in Bengali Colony area of Chawani in Kota, according to news agency PTI. Following the attack, local authorities have assured residents that steps are being taken to control the growing stray dog menace in the city.
The animal allegedly knocked her down and attacked her multiple times while the child screamed for help. Hearing her cries, nearby residents immediately rushed to the spot and chased the dog away.
The girl suffered serious injuries, including deep wounds on her head, back and wrists, following which she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The CCTV timestamp showed the incident occurring on August 20, 2026, around 7:15 pm.
The incident has increased concerns among residents of Bengali Colony, where another case of a stray dog attack involving a sanitation worker was also reported earlier.
Locals have demanded stronger measures to prevent such incidents and ensure public safety, especially for children and elderly residents.
Following the attack, Ward 63 representative Kishan Prajapati visited the area and contacted the municipal corporation team to capture the aggressive dog.
Officials from the Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) said action is being taken under existing guidelines to manage the stray dog population.
KMC Commissioner OP Mehra said that dogs captured after complaints are taken to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre for sterilisation and are released back into the same locality after 3-4 days as per Supreme Court guidelines.
The KMC commissioner said that the city currently does not have a permanent facility to keep aggressive stray dogs that continue to pose a threat even after sterilisation.
To address this issue, a dedicated dog shelter is being constructed in the Banda Dharampura area.
The facility is expected to be completed within seven to eight months and will have the capacity to house around 600 to 700 animals.
Officials said the shelter will help manage aggressive stray dogs and reduce the risk of attacks in residential areas.
