New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of the Lok Sabha concluded amid heavy uproar as protests over the student issue disrupted proceedings on the final day. The commotion in the House prevented Union Home Minister Amit Shah from delivering his scheduled speech, bringing the session to an unexpected end.
Amit Shah was expected to address the Lok Sabha on key issues, but continuous protests and heated exchanges between the government and opposition benches affected the proceedings. The disruption meant the much-awaited speech could not happen.
Before the day’s proceedings began, opposition MPs gathered at the Makar Dwar of Parliament and raised slogans against the government. During the Monsoon Session, which began on July 21, the opposition had been demanding a response from Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action against protesting students at Jantar Mantar.
Apart from this, the opposition also repeatedly raised the controversy related to the Ram Mandir donation issue in Ayodhya, leading to repeated disruptions in the House.
Despite continuous protests, walkouts and slogan-shouting throughout the session, Parliament cleared several important legislative proposals. A total of 19 bills were passed during the Monsoon Session, including the proposal to rename Kerala as ‘Keralam’ and the NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control) Amendment Bill.
However, the opposition accused the government of avoiding detailed discussions and alleged that seven key bills were passed within just 36 minutes without adequate debate.
