New Delhi: Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the Government of India to provide immediate humanitarian and disaster relief assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods in the Himalayan nation.
Kharge said India shares a deep and historic relationship with Nepal and must stand firmly with the people affected by the massive natural disaster.
In his letter dated August 28, Kharge urged the government to consider deploying teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) wherever required, in coordination with Nepal authorities.

He said NDRF personnel, with their experience in handling major disasters, could provide crucial support in rescue, evacuation and relief operations.
Kharge highlighted the massive loss of lives, destruction of homes and infrastructure, and displacement of thousands due to the floods.
He appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to treat the crisis with urgency and take necessary steps to assist flood-affected communities in Nepal.
The letter comes amid a major flood disaster in Nepal that has claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands missing.
India has already sent emergency relief material, medical teams and rescue support to Nepal as part of its humanitarian assistance efforts.
Kharge said India’s support during such a crisis would strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
