New Delhi: A huge fire broke out at a furniture market in the Shastri Park here in Delhi on Friday night, leading to damages in many shops and causing fear among the locality.

According to the report, no casualties were recorded although one officer of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) got hurt during the fire-extinguishing exercise.

Fire tenders were allegedly pelted with stones after angry locals complained that too few, reportedly two, firefighting vehicles had initially reached the spot, according to news agency

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officer said that they got an emergency alert regarding the outbreak about 11:57 pm. DFS officials said that the fire was fueled by the nature of the products stored at the shops since the furniture outlets contained highly inflammable products such as wood, plywood, and foam. A total of 25 to 30 fire tenders arrived on the scene to quench the raging fires.

Witnesses claimed that residents and business people in the locality attacked some fire tenders using stones claiming that there was delay in responding to the emergency and that initially few fire vehicles arrived at the location.

The fire broke out in a market of with wooden furniture and plywood shops and was brought under control after authorities deployed around 25 to 30 fire tenders to the area. No casualties were reported.

Additional police forces were deployed at the scene to quell any further violence. No arrest has been made concerning the stone pelting yet according to police officials.

During the operation, a DFS officer sustained some injuries after a portion of the finish allegedly collapsed. He was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is stable.

The actual cause of the fire was being investigated by Delhi Police and fire department officials.
